As everyone is getting ready for the holidays, cities and towns are also putting up their own outdoor decorations. Jefferson City is not only lifting spirits up with holiday décor, they’re also saving with LEDs

The lighted snowflake decorations that line Broadway and part of the Mossy Creek Historic District are brighter — and less expensive — this year thanks to new LED bulbs. Earlier this month, Jefferson City Council authorized the purchase of 3,000 LED (light-emitting diode) bulbs at a cost of $3,180. Public works employees replaced the old incandescent bulbs with the new ones and hung the snowflakes Monday.
