Detroit’s New LEDs
Detroit’s current public lighting system is failing, but fortunately, an overhaul is in the way, with new brighter, and more energy efficient LED lights soon to light the roads of Motor City.
DETROIT, MI - Detroit is making steady progress in turning on the lights, according to the authority created to overhaul the city's failing street light system.
The city's Public Light Authority reported this week it finished installation of new LED street lights in three zip codes, and met a July 31 deadline to complete work on two pilot project areas. In all, the authority reports it has installed 14,000 new street lights and is about 3,000 lights ahead of schedule. The PLA is charged with installing 65,000 new lights over the next two years.
