Home Energy Efficient

Hacks are little things that you can do to make a big difference in your life. As for saving energy and turning your home more efficient, there are a number of hacks that you can do. From energy efficient bulbs to cold water, below are a few hacks for an efficient home.

Keep your Windows well Insulated Proper insulation is important to keep your home warm during the cold months. It keeps the warmth in and the cool air out. DIY draft stoppers can be made out of a number of things you can find at home or there are some inexpensive ones that you can get for a few dollars.

Tightly Packed Freezers Conserves Energy Freezers that are packed tightly keep colder better. The next time you clean out your freezer, arrange the food properly and use newspapers or ice bags to fill-up the space.

Do your Laundry with Cold Water As much as possible, use cold water when doing your laundry. This way, your washer won’t need to spend energy on heating the water for your wash. Also, most clothes are better off being washed in cold water anyway.

Air-Dry your Laundry When the sun is up and it’s a warm day, make the most of it by air-drying your clothes. Give your dryer a day off and hang your clothes. Use a drying rack or make an indoor clothing line and hang your garments overnight.

Reusable Items Rule Make it a point to use or buy reusable grocery bags, cloth napkins, water bottles and every other item that you can reuse over and over again.

Switch to LED Lights It’s amazing how much energy you can save just by switching to LEDs. These bulbs provide the same amount of light but only use a fraction of the power old bulbs like incandescent use.
