How Do You Choose the Perfect LED Light Bulb

With more people making the shift towards energy-efficient light bulbs like light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs, the problem now is choosing the right bulb for your needs—one that meets the sweet spot of energy efficiency and low price. When buying an LED light bulb, you might be surprised to find out that many of them don’t exactly come cheap, so think of them as an investment. But while it’s true that they’re more expensive, their energy efficiency allows you to recoup their cost in just a matter of months. Here are a few factors to consider when buying LED light bulbs.

Go for brightness and efficiency It used to be that the best way to figure out a light bulb’s brightness was to look at its wattage rating. The more watts, the brighter the light bulb, or so it went back then. However, with LED light bulbs, it’s no longer prudent to rely on wattage ratings, as these bulbs use up very little electricity but generate more light than ever. Instead, what you should look for when buying an LED is the lumens rating and lumens per watt output. The lumens rating indicates a bulb’s brightness, as perceived by the human eye. So find a bulb that generates more lumens for very few watts.

Size and shape LED light bulbs come in all shapes and sizes, each fit for a particular use. You can choose from candles, A-line, outdoor, and floodlights, just to name a few. In any case, just remember the bulb’s desired application. Will you use it for accent lighting? For decorative lighting? General lighting? Or outdoor lighting?
